BelizeThe Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is a part of a comprehensive environmental strategy stemming from the 1992 Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This Convention sets out commitments for maintaining the world's ecosystems in the context of sustainable development.

Belize is a signatory to this important Convention and one of its obligations is to develop a ‘Clearing-House Mechanism’ related to the dissemination of biodiversity and natural resources-related information.

Belize’s CHM system is designed to contain a vast amount of information pertinent to natural resource and conservation-oriented agencies and organizations, making it easier for each agency to quickly locate the data and information needed.

The Clearing-House is a collaborative project, each participating agency providing some of their information to make the system more comprehensive. This collaboration builds a national community sharing information, data and experiences; helping each other obtain needed information and learning from each other with the goal of enabling better natural resource management and biodiversity conservation for the future of Belize and its people.
